B.4. Contents of the preconfiguration file (for focal)
The configuration fragments used in this appendix are also available as anexample preconfiguration file from ./example-preseed.txt.
Note that this example is based on an installation for the Intel x86architecture. If you are installing a different architecture, some of theexamples (like keyboard selection and bootloader installation) may not berelevant and will need to be replaced by debconf settings appropriate foryour architecture.
Details on how the different Debian Installer components actually work can befound in Section 6.3, 'Using Individual Components'. https://cateringdownload.medium.com/free-photo-editing-programs-for-pc-7ddbfb7aaeee.
During a normal install the questions about localization are asked first,so these values can only be preseeded via the initrd or kernel bootparameter methods. Auto mode (Section B.2.3, 'Auto mode') includesthe setting of auto-install/enable=true
(normally viathe auto
preseed alias). This delays the asking ofthe localisation questions, so that they can be preseeded by any method.
The locale can be used to specify both language and country and can be anycombination of a language supported by debian-installer
and a recognized country. Ifthe combination does not form a valid locale, the installer will automaticallyselect a locale that is valid for the selected language. To specify the locale as a boot parameter, uselocale=
.en_US
Zumba fitness wii iso pal torrent. Although this method is very easy to use, it does not allow preseeding ofall possible combinations of language, country and locale[19]. So alternatively the values can be preseeded individually.Language and country can also be specified as boot parameters.
Keyboard configuration consists of selecting a keymap and (for non-latinkeymaps) a toggle key to switch between the non-latin keymap and the US keymap.Only basic keymap variants are available during installation. Advanced variantsare available only in the installed system, through dpkg-reconfigurekeyboard-configuration.
To specify the keymap as a boot parameter, useconsole-setup/ask_detect=falsekeyboard-configuration/xkb-keymap=
.The keymap is an X layout name, as would be used in theus
XkbLayout
option in/etc/X11/xorg.conf
.
To skip keyboard configuration, preseedkeymap
withSKIP
.This will result in the kernel keymap remaining active.
Of course, preseeding the network configuration won't work if you'reloading your preconfiguration file from the network. But it's great whenyou're booting from CD or USB stick. If you are loading preconfigurationfiles from the network, you can pass network config parameters by usingkernel boot parameters.
If you need to pick a particular interface when netbooting before loadinga preconfiguration file from the network, use a boot parameter such asinterface=
.eth1
Although preseeding the network configuration is normally not possible whenusing network preseeding (using 'preseed/url'), you can usethe following hack to work around that, for example if you'd like to set astatic address for the network interface. The hack is to force the networkconfiguration to run again after the preconfiguration file has been loadedby creating a 'preseed/run' script containing the followingcommands:
The following debconf variables are relevant for network configuration.
Please note that netcfg will automatically determine thenetmask if netcfg/get_netmask
is not preseeded. Inthis case, the variable has to be marked as seen
forautomatic installations. Similarly, netcfg will choosean appropriate address if netcfg/get_gateway
is notset. As a special case, you can setnetcfg/get_gateway
to 'none' to specifythat no gateway should be used.
Depending on the installation method you use, a mirror may be used todownload additional components of the installer, to install the base system, and to set up the /etc/apt/sources.list
for the installedsystem.

The parameter mirror/suite
determines the suite forthe installed system.
The parameter mirror/udeb/suite
determines the suitefor additional components for the installer. It is only useful to set thisif components are actually downloaded over the network and should match thesuite that was used to build the initrd for the installation method used forthe installation. Normally the installer will automatically use the correctvalue and there should be no need to set this.
The parameter mirror/udeb/components
determines thearchive components from which additional installer components are fetched. It is only useful to set this if components are actually downloaded over thenetwork. The default components are main and restricted.
The password for the root account and name and password for a first regularuser's account can be preseeded. For the passwords you can use either cleartext values or crypt(3) hashes.
Execmgr Auto Install Is Set To False Blood
Warning |
---|
Be aware that preseeding passwords is not completely secure as everyonewith access to the preconfiguration file will have the knowledge of thesepasswords. Storing hashed passwords is considered secure unless a weakhashing algorithm like DES or MD5 is used which allow for bruteforceattacks. Recommended password hashing algorithms are SHA-256 and SHA512. |
The passwd/root-password-crypted
andpasswd/user-password-crypted
variables can alsobe preseeded with '!' as their value. In that case, thecorresponding account is disabled. This may be convenient for the rootaccount, provided of course that an alternative method is set up to allowadministrative activities or root login (for instance by using SSH keyauthentication or sudo).
The following command (available from the whois
package)can be used to generate a SHA-512 based crypt(3) hash for a password:
Vocaloid editor free mac. The s390x offers two unique kinds of disk storage - DASD and FCP (or zFCP).
Using preseeding to partition the harddisk is limited to what is supportedby partman-auto
. You can choose to partitioneither existing free space on a disk or a whole disk. The layout of thedisk can be determined by using a predefined recipe, a custom recipe froma recipe file or a recipe included in the preconfiguration file.
Execmgr Auto Install Is Set To False Light
Preseeding of advanced partition setups using RAID, LVM and encryption issupported, but not with the full flexibility possible when partitioningduring a non-preseeded install.
The examples below only provide basic information on the use of recipes. For detailed information see the filespartman-auto-recipe.txt
andpartman-auto-raid-recipe.txt
included in thedebian-installer
package. Both files are also available from thedebian-installer
sourcerepository. Note that the supported functionality may changebetween releases.
Warning |
---|
The identification of disks is dependent on the order in which their driversare loaded. If there are multiple disks in the system, make very sure thecorrect one will be selected before using preseeding. |
You can also use preseeding to set up partitions on software RAID arrays.Supported are RAID levels 0, 1, 5, 6 and 10, creating degraded arrays andspecifying spare devices.
Warning |
---|
This type of automated partitioning is easy to get wrong. It is alsofunctionality that receives relatively little testing from the developersof |
Normally, filesystems are mounted using a universally unique identifier(UUID) as a key; this allows them to be mounted properly even if theirdevice name changes. UUIDs are long and difficult to read, so, if youprefer, the installer can mount filesystems based on the traditional devicenames, or based on a label you assign. If you ask the installer to mount bylabel, any filesystems without a label will be mounted using a UUID instead. Cloudtv 3 8.
Devices with stable names, such as LVM logical volumes, will continue to usetheir traditional names rather than UUIDs.
Warning |
---|
Traditional device names may change based on the order in which the kerneldiscovers devices at boot, which may cause the wrong filesystem to bemounted. Similarly, labels are likely to clash if you plug in a new disk ora USB drive, and if that happens your system's behaviour when started willbe random. |
There is actually not very much that can be preseeded for this stage of theinstallation. The only questions asked concern the installation of the kerneland the location of the base pre-configured filesystem for the installation.
Setup of the /etc/apt/sources.list
and basic configurationoptions is fully automated based on your installation method and answers toearlier questions. You can optionally add other (local) repositories.
You can choose to install any combination of tasks that are available.Available tasks as of this writing include:
standard
(standard tools)lamp-server
print-server
(print server)
You can also choose to install no tasks, and force the installation of aset of packages in some other way. We recommend always including thestandard
task.
If you want to install some individual packages in addition to packagesinstalled by tasks, you can use the parameterpkgsel/include
. The value of this parameter can bea list of packages separated by either commas or spaces, which allows itto be used easily on the kernel command line as well. By default, recommended packages will not be installed; to change this, preseedpkgsel/install-recommends
to true.
To install a different set of language packs, you can use the parameterpkgsel/language-packs
. The value of this parametershould be a list of ISO-639 language codes. If not set, the language packsmatching the language selected in the installer will be installed.
Since the s390x comes with it's unique CCW IO-layer,it's architecture-specific devices that are based uppon CCW require special preseed settings, that have a 's390-' prefix. But these settings can also be specified as boot parameters, in this case just without the prefix.
All s390x-specific preseed settings are prefixed with 's390-.'.
With the help of these settings you can even preseed early questions like about the qeth network devices.
The best way to look them up is the full list of debconf templates that available here.
Especially the following templates:

This example shows a typical preseed configuration for a s390x system. In such environments static networks are more common that dynamic ones. For doing the network configuration at an early stage at least some of the s390-netdevice settings need to be used as boot parameters in the parmfile. https://ameblo.jp/1bacnoge-shizc/entry-12652184730.html.
The preseed configuration file can be located on a ftp, tftp or http server or it can be included in the root directory of the initrd. If there is already a ftp server setup for ftp-based network installation, the same system can be used as preseed server. This would also ensure that the preseed file is accessible during boot and install time at the same system. In case the Ubuntu servers have no direct connection to the internet, the public update server can't be directly used, hence the install and preseed system may even act a local archive mirror. In case of a non-interactive installetion with dynamic network some additional resources are obviously needed, like DHCP and DNS.
Here is a set of boot parameters that can be put into the ubuntu.parmfile

on a Minidisk, please remember the file requirements (mode binary / bin, FTP option locsite fix 80 and max. 11 lines with each 80 characters + additional 10 characters).
Especially on LPAR installation it's worth to consider using the cio_ignore parameter to hide some of the devices from Linux, which may speedup the boot and install process significantly.
